UAF rifle finishes first in division

At the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the No. 2 Nanooks rifle team took first place.

With a combined total of 4,680 points, they placed ahead of Texas Christian University, who took second overall with 4,665 points. Third place was obtained by Ohio State with a total of 4,655 points. With a score of 2,325, they won the smallbore event on Saturday.

However, the air rifle event was taken by the Air Force Falcons with a score of 2,356.

Senior Ryan Anderson stood at the top of the team with a 593 shot total in air rifle and qualified for finals at third overall. He then went on to place seventh individually after the finals.

Junior Lorelie Stanfield finished eight individually with an equal shot of 593. Both of their scores of 593 is a team high.

Only slightly below, freshman Sagen Maddalena took sixth individually with a shot total of 591 and qualified at seventh overall.

Winner of the individual smallbore title, junior Tim Sherry, shot a 588. Senior Mats Eriksson scored a 582 while freshman Luke Johnson shot 583. Once the Nanooks return to Fairbanks, they will host the NCAA qualifying match at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range on Feb. 21. The NCAA Championships will also be hosted by the Nanooks on March 13-14 at the Patty Center.
