The Nanook swim team took to the pool early Saturday morning against a variety of swimmers from the Fairbanks community for a fundraiser.
Swimmers from all over Fairbanks were encouraged to show up and race the Nanooks, paying a $10 entry fee that went toward funding the swim team’s efforts this year. Most participants
who raced the Nanooks were from masters swimming, a Fairbanks swim program designed for adults. Other participants included UAF alumni swimmers.
The Nanook swim team begin their season next Saturday morning with the Blue and Gold meet at the Patty pool at 9 a.m.
Volleyball
The Nanooks took two volleyball losses this week, first against the University of Alaska Anchorage on Tuesday night, and later against Montana State on Saturday afternoon.

They started Tuesday night’s game with a hard-fought first set win. The Nanooks went on to lose the next three sets, and finished the game 3-1.
Saturday afternoon’s game got off to a similar start, with the Nanooks losing 3-1 to Montana State. The Nanooks started out strong, coming close to winning on the first set and pushing the second set into overtime. They went on to win the third set, but didn’t ultimately have enough to win the last set, or the game.
Their next match is Thursday night in the Patty center at 7:00 p.m. against St. Martin’s.
Hockey

Hockey began its season Saturday with the annual Blue and Gold match, a game where the Nanooks and invited alumni split into two teams that compete against each other.
Two goals made during the first half secured a victory for the Blue team, with the Gold team never coming close to scoring.
The Nanooks will continue their season with a match next Sunday at 3:07 p.m. against Mt. Royal at the Carlson center.
